What makes a good engineer?

I've spent some time (albeit a relatively short time) in a professional engineering environment, working with other engineers and non-engineers alike. Something that naturally comes up in these environments is comparison, theres comraderie but also some competition — which I strongly believe is a healthy thing. It however often prompts the conversation: "whos the best engineer?" and so I'm here to talk about that question. What it means, what constitues a 'good engineer' and how we can collectively be better.
